Ahhhh wood-paneled walls. Originally expensive, the veneering process of the ’60s and ’70s made the installation of wood paneling easy and affordable. There’s hardly a house from that era that hasn’t seen wood paneling in the basement or den. If you are the owner of a home with sheets of wood paneling adorning the walls in one of your rooms, it’s time to give it a facelift.
A couple of base coats and a roll of white, or possibly a historic hue, and the dark room is lightened with a cottage or shabby-chic color scheme. If the paneling is glossy, you may need to rough it up a bit first to get the paint to adhere. Before you run out and buy brass knuckles, speak to your local hardware or paint store to determine the correct tools to use.
